I think a few weeks ago a lot of runners were very disappointed with this 21K local race being short by 3Kms. Now adidas KOTR 2009 seems to have addressed this issue in their 5K race by adding an extra mile (actually, just 0.87mile, I’m just exaggerating). This is probably what they call “exceeding the customer’s expectations”. The total distance was 6.41Kms! Great job done by the race marshals and the organizers. This is great for beginners, who used to run/walk the 5K race who have now without realizing that they have ran 6.41Kms.

My official time for the 6.41K race was 29′51.6″. Luckily, I’ve set my splits to Kilometers instead of Miles, so I was able to get my 5K split to be 23′16.4″, my new 5K PR for the year!

After 4Kms, I was ready to run really fast, I felt really great, the temperature was perfect, but the finish line seemed to be too far from where I was. I felt something was wrong, so I took it easy for the next 5th Kilometer where I obviously slowed down. I had to run another mile although I was already exhausted. From the looks of it, I could have broken 23minutes only if the distance was correct. I would have sprinted the last 400 to 100meters, like I did in this 6.41K race.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/17020148

Anyway, I wasn’t seriously seeking for a 5K PR today knowing I’m out of shape. But if I did, I would probably have:
1) Stopped at the 5K point and just jog or walk to the finish line.
2) Stopped at the 5K point and just take a taxi or bus to the finish line.
3) Run the course at least 1 week ahead of schedule, to really familiarize myself with the official race course. So when it comes to the race itself, I don’t have to follow what the race marshals have to say.

Meanwhile, today was Beth’s 21Km race debut. She ran 16kms last week in training, so it looks like she’s really ready for this, and she even rested well 3days ago. She carbo-loaded last night, and she just looks very fit and gorgeous. Then she finished the 21K today in less than 2:23′45″! Not bad for a first timer. Now she wants to train for the Condura 42K on February 7th, 2010!

When we were about to go home, we were able to spot a celebrity in Bonifacio High Street doing his long run, probably training for a Marathon.

Piolo Pascual running backwards.

Yesterday I was planning to run from home to the ROTARUN organized by takbo.ph. It was a little under 10Kms to go to the Fort, and my ITBS would probably limit my run to only 10Kms. So I decided to go there and then maybe wait for the takbo.ph people there. On my way there, I was able to cross the race path and saw a lot of familiar runners- Jovie aka BaldRunner, Coach Salazar, Patrick aka vVinceth, dennis aka Dennis, Luis aka Gingerbread, Paolo aka bastarunnersweetlover, and the very tall Alfred aka El Kyoshi- Oh my he is tall for a runner!

So here’s my run yesterday: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/13615672

When I arrived at the Fort, I was a little too early and the fast runners haven’t arrived yet. So I decided to go in front of the finish line and take photographs of the fastest runners. I was wondering why I can’t see any takbo.ph peeps at the finish line, so I texted Doc Lyndon. He said he was at the stage. But I couldn’t see him. It took me a little over an hour to realize I was in Enervon Prime Race, not the ROTARUN! What the…. I’ve just banditted the wrong race. Could any bandit runner any be dumber than this? For now, just enjoy these photographs of fast runners:

The race to 2.5K (the guy in yellow singlet won)
A very fast Taki (he finished the 5K in 20:04!)
